Lake Inle

Lake Inle is an exorheic lake in central Myanmar which fills a shallow depression of the Shweyaung Rift valley. It is appr. 40 km long and has a maximum width of 11 km. The lake surface area varies significantly annually. Nine endemic fish species in three endemic genera are known. The diversity of gastropods is high (~20 species), with a couple of supposedly endemic species. Unfortunately, no recent comprehensive studies on the biodiversity of Lake Inle exist.
